After two years, one month and nine days of development, the Debian Project released the next stable version 11 (codenamed Bullseye) on Aug. 14, 2021. Version 11 will receive five years of support (LTS) thanks to the Debian Security team and the Debian Long Term Support team.

This release contains a total of 59,551 software packages, of which 11,294 are new. 9,519 were marked as obsolete and removed. 42,821 packages have been updated and 5,434 have not been changed.

By default, Debian 11 Bullseye runs the Gnome interface, but several desktop applications and environments are shipped:

  • Gnome 3.38
  • KDE Plasma 5.20
  • LXDE 11
  • LXQt 0.16
  • MATE 1.24
  • Xfce 4.16

As the first Debian version, the exFAT file system is supported with the LTS kernel 5.10 and thus provides the necessary tools to create, check or read data media such as USB sticks with the file system. Numerous known bugs and potential security holes have also been closed.
